We are now in the middle of the 2008-9 Wolf/SubZero contest. Time to get some photos of those hot projects… or sell a sub zero refer and stove…

Official Contest Rules.

All design and construction must be fully completed within the contest period of
January 1, 2008, to December 31, 2009. The individual entrant must be the person who designed the kitchen. If a
team of two or more designers enters the contest and is selected as a regional winner, only one trip for two and
one cash prize of $500 will be awarded. The designers must decide who will attend the contest celebration.

Prize Structure and Categories.

Regional winners competing within distributor territories will receive $500
cash and will compete for national awards in the categories listed below. In addition to cash prizes, all regional,
national and international winners receive a trip for two to The Breakers in Palm Beach, Florida for the four-day
celebration March 24–28, 2010. International winners will also be eligible to win national awards.
Best Use of Sub-Zero and Wolf in the Kitchen. Two first place national winners will be selected—one for a
traditional/transitional kitchen and one for contemporary/minimalist—both will carry a cash prize of $15,000 and
include the trip for two. A second place national winner (any style kitchen) will receive $10,000 and the trip for two.
A third place winner (any style kitchen) will receive $5,000 and the trip for two.
Designers’ Choice Award. One national winner, selected by peers, via an online voting system (any style kitchen),
will receive a cash prize of $15,000 and the trip for two.
Best Use of Integrated, Wine Storage and/or Wolf Equipment Outside the Kitchen. One national winner will
receive a cash prize of $5,000 and the trip for two.
Best Use of Sub-Zero and Wolf in an Outdoor Kitchen. One national winner will receive a cash prize of $5,000
and the trip for two.
Sustainable “Green” Kitchen Using Sub-Zero and Wolf. One national winner will receive a cash prize of $5,000
and the trip for two.
International Award. Three winners will be selected—one for Europe, one for Central/South America and the third
for Middle East/Asia Pacific—all three will receive a cash prize of $5,000 and the trip for two. Winners will also
have the chance to compete for the top four national awards.
Student Award. One national winner will receive a cash prize of $2,500 and the trip for two.

Frequently asked questions and answers:
1) Is it necessary to use both Sub-Zero and Wolf in a kitchen
to enter the contest?
Yes, either a full-size built-in or integrated unit as the refrigeration
and Wolf equipment as the primary cooking instruments
for the residence must be used. It is not a requirement to use
Wolf ventilation, microwave oven or warming drawer.

bath2) What type of drawings do I need to provide?
To help in the judging process, 8.5″ x 11″ format is preferred.
Handling larger drawings slows the judging process. Entrants
can use computer drawings, reduced blue prints or artist
renderings. The purpose of the drawings is to give our judges
the layout of the room and an idea of traffic flow. We need
both floor plan and elevations if possible.
3) Do you want the entrant’s name on the drawings?
ABSOLUTELY NOT. Please leave your name off the drawings,
narrative, photos or any other material you send us. If you do
not follow this step, we will delete this information to avoid
any potential for bias on the part of our judges.
4) What type of photography do I need to include?
(Not applicable for student category.)
As the rules spell out, we need a minimum of two 5″ x 7″
or 8″ x 10″ color prints of the entry. Larger prints are acceptable.
Professional photography is not required, but the
obvious benefit of a nicely photographed kitchen would be
to your advantage. “Before” shots are also welcomed.
5) Who are the judges?
We are in the process of recruiting a few new judges. We
will provide you with this information as soon as the process
is completed. The selections will be indicative of the high
caliber of judges utilized in past KDC contests.
6) Describe the category, “Best Use of Integrated, Wine
Storage and/or Wolf Equipment Outside the Kitchen”.
The design flexibility of the integrated products along with our
wine storage equipment and the Wolf equipment offers endless
possibilities. We want to encourage you to think “outside
of the box” and use your imagination to show us interesting
applications for both Sub-Zero and Wolf products.
7) Am I strictly limited to 200 words (or 500 for Sustainable
“Green” and student categories) in the narrative?
Yes, please adhere to the rules; however, the judges do
not count words. We rely on the entrant to summarize the
problems and design solutions they offered in their entries
in a succinct manner.
8) Can you provide specific suggestions for the narrative?
The narrative can include design challenges encountered,
how these challenges were worked into the design and how
the use of Sub-Zero and Wolf products benefited or brought
uniqueness to the design. For additional design narrative
suggestions, please refer to the back of the official entry
form.
9) When and where will the regional winners go for their
four-day trip?
The KDC celebration is March 24–28, 2010. For 2010, we
will return to The Breakers in Palm Beach, Florida.
10) What is the deadline for the receipt of entries at Sub-Zero
and Wolf and when will the regional winners be announced?
All entries must be received no later than January 8, 2010.
Regional and special awards winners will be announced the
week of February 8, 2010.
